Sunbelt originated in 1986 as a one-person waste brokerage known as Sunbelt Industrial Services. Using his safety experience with International Harvester and Springfield Remanufacturing Company, Lee Schaefer developed Sunbelt by educating businesses about environmental hazards, regulations and risks.
In 1993, Tom Underwood and Lee Schaefer together bought the company from its Texas-based owner, changing the name to Sunbelt Environmental Services, Inc. Today, Sunbelt has grown into its fifth building and employs experienced chemists, hygienists, biologists, geologists, environmental scientists, consultants, engineers, safety experts and field service technicians, all focused on using innovative technologies to save customers money.
